Parents have to take a note! A new study has warned that irritating and bullying your kid may result in change in eating habits and other behavior in kids.
Eating difficulties in childhood can be a sign of some hidden psychological issues, researchers have said. Researchers at the University of Montreal and its affiliated CHU Sainte-Justine children's hospital said that difficult eaters could have underlying psychological issues, after they have found that restrictive behaviour can appear before puberty.
'Many eminent researchers believe that the signs and symptoms of bulimia appear only at adolescence, but similar studies have also suggested that such related problems can also occur a bit earlier too. The problem is under-diagnosed because of a lack of awareness and investigation,' said clinical psychologist and Professor Dominique Meilleur, who led the study.
Kids who underwent health problems such as diabetes and cystic fibrosis, were eliminated from the study. The researchers also made a conclusion that children mostly suffered from problems such as anxiety, mood disorders and attention deficiency.
Across the whole study, about 52 per cent of children were hospitalized at least once because of their wrong food pattern and other 48 per cent were treated as outpatient’s emergency responders.
Around 95 per cent of the children in the study had restrictive eating behaviour, 69.4 per cent were afraid of putting on weight, and 46.6 per cent described themselves as "fat."
