Having excess of pickle is bad for health

Pickles are one of the most important and integral part of every Indian cuisine and no meal is considered to be complete without having them, but having too much of it would prove to be harmful for your health.

High salt content: large quantity of salt consumption would trigger many ill health effects such as hypertension and heart diseases. It remains to be the main reason for swelling and water retention which eventually leads to high blood pressure in the body. Homemade pickles are the safest made pickles to be handled, produced and consumed.

Too much oil: Oil acts as the barrier between the moisture and the content. Oil also prevents the contamination and decay of pickles from bacteria and other microbes.

Unfortunately, pickles are high in sodium and eating a high-sodium diet is strongly associated with risk for developing high blood pressure. The Institute of Medicine’s Food and Nutrition Board recommends that healthy people should consume less than 2,300 mg of sodium a day. One spear of a classic dill pickle contains 306 mg of sodium or 13 percent of the daily recommendation. You can still enjoy pickles, but limit your serving sizes, or choose low-sodium varieties.
