This model is designed to prevent passing on incurable diseases to the next generation from parents with specific genetic faults. The embryos will be implemented into a woman after required genetic modifications. The method is known as mitochondrial replacement or transfer. It is in its research stage at Britain and US laboratories as the method is not yet tested in a human being yet.
The treatment is called as 3-parent IVF(In Vitro Fertilization), as it involves a father, a mother and a female donor.
