The healing powers of magnet are well known from long time back, especially by athletes to cure pain. Magnets are being wrapped in many belts and clothes and applied to the aching parts of the body to relieve soreness.Researches are being carried out to find out whether magnets have such real powers to cure pain. From thousands of years back onwards, human beings had started to use magnets for the purpose. Some of them think that, magnets are not only pain relievers, but also they can cure depression and healing of wounds and fractures. The process involves magnetic fields, which are created and used in various ways.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), an electromagnetic coil is placed against the head to produce a mild electric current and a strong magnetic field. This procedure helps to find out any abnormalities in the brain.Several studies show that, they can effectively cure depression, by stimulating the brain in a similar manner as that of shock, or electroconvulsive therapy. Minor research is going on to find out whether TMS can improve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, such as problems with coordination and reaction time. But the results are not yet concluded successfully. Other research studies show that, magnetic fields can affect the level of parahormones (substances that act like hormones, but are not) and can regenerate the bones and shortens the wound and fracture healing time.
Another form of of the therapy involves placing powerful small magnetic disks on different areas of the body. The goal is to magnetize the iron in the blood cells, thereby escalating blood flow and the amount of oxygen and heat distributed to cells.Proponents of this therapy believe that, healing is forced to occur as the result of this increased circulation, especially for chronic pain. A study held at Texas rehabilitation clinic, small magnets were found to be useful in lightening up the muscle and joint pain in patients who had once suffered from polio. But results have shown the other way round too, as they did not have a part in relieving from heel pains.
Most experts still remain confused and unconvinced regarding the magnetic therapy. Even though they show positive results in certain cases, they are considered only as short term benefits. There are more chances for having long term side effects. The magnetic therapy also may be regarded to interfere with other kinds of medications also. There may be many misleading claims to treat a range of ailments from different manufacturers of these electromagnetic devices.
Due to the increased sufferings by some, they may be easily prone to buy and use such products. Several complaints have been registered regarding the effectiveness of these devices.Several magnet therapy products, whether a simple “wrap” containing magnets or a elaborate machine creating magnetic fields have not been proven to work. The best way to make use of the therapy, is to consult a doctor and get thoroughly checked, whether the therapy can be taken up or not. The people with pacemakers or those who are pregnant is better not to try these so as to avoid risks.
