COVID 19 has been surprising scientists as new symptoms and side effects of the infection are being discovered every day. As per the researches, COVID – 19 attacks differently on different vital organs right from the digestive tract, respiratory tract, immune system, skin, heart and brain. While some people suffer nil to mild, some suffer moderate to extreme symptoms, which may lead to an individual’s death.
The new studies and findings suggest that not just the patients but COVID 19 survivors have found to be suffering from psychological delusions and impairments, after fighting and testing negative for the infection. It has been seen that many of the received patients have been found to suffer from anxiety, confusion, social stigma, insomnia which makes them prone to depression, other compulsive disorder symptoms.
While the earlier studies had pointed out that the viral infection caused substantial damage to the heart and lungs, now the studies suggest that nearly 55%of the patients are found to suffer some kind of psychological disorder as well. Surprisingly, women are found to have been impacted more severely than men due to COVID 19.
According to the study published in the journal – Brain, Behavior and Immunity, the present observations suggest worse inflammation which leads to worst depression. The people are found to be suffering from psychological stress due to isolation and social stigma surrounded around them, Survivors are often found to be anxious and overly exerted about the concerns of spreading the virus to others, this makes it a lot harder for the brain to process. It has been reported that people who had no history or signs of depression showed signs of these disorders even after recovering from the virus.
The scientists have also pointed out that the brain could have a grave impact due to COVID 19 infection. People with the most severe diagnosis are found to have experienced symptoms that range from sudden loss of consciousness, delirium, a decline in cognition, stroke, brain inflammation and worsening of pre-existing conditions like dementia.
