by Midhun Paul

Scientist spotted prevention of death due to cardiac problem caused by bacterial pneumonia. Approximately 20% of the patients hospitalized with Pneumonia, that are caused by a bacteria “Streptococcus pneumoniae”, die due to some heart problems. In patients with Pneumonia, the invaded bacteria enter into the heart and kill heart cells, increasing the chances of heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms and heart attacks. Scientist found two molecules, that are released by the bacteria, responsible for this. Molecule called CbpA (choline-binding protein A) helped the bacteria enter into the heart and pneumolysin, a poison produced by the bacteria, was responsible for the death of heart cells. Based on the findings, research team is in the process of developing new vaccine, which is made up of CbpA and a non-toxic type of pneumolysin. Scientists found that, this vaccine stimulates the antibodies, that can kill the causative organism.
